OSTRENKO BROTHERS
METHOD
Sergei Ostrenko teaches directors method, "Life and Death in Performance: The Invariant Situation of Sleep and Contemplation," by introducing them to the concept of the "invariant situation" of sleep and contemplation as a means of creating a unique and meaningful performance. He begins by discussing the potential symbolism and themes that can be explored through the use of a "passive" hero who is sleeping or dead, and an "awake" hero who is indulging in contemplation, sadness, or grief.
He also works with directors to explore different interpretations of this type of plot and how it can be used in a variety of performances, such as plays, dance performances, and even in film. He also guides directors on how to use this concept in other elements of the performance such as lighting, sound, costume, and set design, to create a sense of atmosphere and meaning.
Sergei also encourages directors to experiment with different approaches to this concept and to use their own creative vision to bring a unique and authentic experience to their performances. Through feedback and self-reflection, he helps directors evaluate their progress and make adjustments as needed. Overall, Sergei aims to help directors to create a powerful and meaningful performance that can connect with the audience on a deeper level.
Gennadiy Ostrenko, as a biomechanics and stage combat coach, helps his brother, Sergei Ostrenko, trains young directors in the method "Life and Death in Performance: The Invariant Situation of Sleep and Contemplation" by providing them with a deeper understanding of the physicality and movement of the characters in the performance.
Gennadiy works with young directors to help them understand how the body language and movement of their characters can be used to convey different emotions and ideas. He also uses biomechanics to help them understand how to create believable and authentic physical actions for their characters. This can be especially useful when dealing with scenes that involve sleeping or contemplation, as Gennadiy helps the young directors to understand how the body behaves when it is in those states and how to convey that through movement.
In addition, Gennadiy also helps young directors to create stage combat and fight scenes that are safe, believable and visually interesting. By understanding the principles of biomechanics and stage combat, young directors can create action sequences that are both effective and safe to execute.
By working together, Gennadiy and Sergei provide directors with a holistic approach to creating a performance. Gennadiy helps them to understand and convey the physicality of the characters, while Sergei guides them in exploring the themes and symbolism of the performance. Together, they help young directors to create a powerful and meaningful performance that connects with the audience on a deeper level.
